So it took a little longer to read this book mostly because life just kept getting in the way. But the book was awesome. There were times where it lagged just a little. Mostly because the protagonist honestly makes you want to hit him regularly. Don’t get me wrong I think that is a great characteristic in a book character. That they are so well written that you really do think of them as a real person that makes real mistakes.
The book starts with Nick Hansen in the grocery store and he sees a young girl that looks exactly like Marissa Minor the girl he dated in college. The problem with that is that she had been dead for twenty years. A tragic fire their junior year in college that left her and three other student dead. Nick approaches the young girl just to see if she was in any way related to the Minors. She freaked out and ran out of the store. The next day Nick was awakened by two officers banging on his door because that same young girl was found dead in her hotel room with his name and address in her pocket.
Obviously this girl is connected to him in some sort of way because why else would she have his information with her. This causes Nick to start looking into his past as well as Marissa’s. With the help of some of his old friends he goes back in time to figure out why this young girl was murdered and with a twist ending that I can say I don’t think anybody could really see coming.
This was my first time reading a David Bell novel and I will definitely be reading him again. Like I said before the writing in this book made the characters so real that you feel so many emotions while reading about what they’re going through. I legitimately felt bad for Nick when he thought that Marissa had cheated on him with Roger. And after he meets Roger you just can’t help but hate him even more. Bottom line is this book has a little action, lots of mystery and intrigue, I would definitely recommend that if you are a fan of either of those things that this is the book for you. I can’t wait to read my next David Bell novel. Happy reading you guys!
